A Supermoto to beat all Supermotos
What is Supermoto
Before developing a new supermoto motorcycle, the Megelli Design Team had to define what Supermoto is. Supermoto, or Supermotard is an evolution of motocross and motorcycle road racing. Supermoto races are usually held on road racing or medium sized go-kart tracks with a dirt section. Supermoto tracks are usually made up of 70% tarmac and 30% off-road.
History of Supermoto in USA & Europe
Supermoto originated in the 1970s in USA. . In 1979, ABC commissioned a TV event named Superbikers, whose intention was to find the ultimate all-around motorcycle racer. European racers took the sport of Supermoto back to Europe with them. With AMA Supermoto Championship & X-Games, the popularity of Supermoto has soured rapidly since 2003.
What Makes a Good Supermoto Motorcycle ?
Supermoto bikes are versatile, exciting to ride, and very durable - both on track and on UK roads.A street legal Supermoto requires modifications such as: headlights, taillights, horn, mirrors and street-legal tires among other occasional modifications. In Europe most Supermotos are sold street legal from the factory and later tuned for race use. Supermotos make excellent city motorbikes because of their upright seating position. Supermoto riding position provides great visibility in traffic. Supermotos also have narrow frames and light weight which also make them incredibly maneuverable. If you are looking for a motorbike that is easier to ride in twisty or less than ideal road conditions, then a Supermoto is a great alternative to a traditional streetbike.
